BlackFox VESUVIUS BF-710

Derived from the original project Vesuvius (Vesuvius by S. Mitchell), I'm pleased to introduce you the newborn BlackFox VESUVIUS BF-710

I designed BlackFox VESUVIUS specifically for the bushcraft. 

Main features of VESUVIUS are:

1. full-tang structure for the greater robustness as possible; 
2. drop-point modified 4" blade, flat bevels, for versatility and ease of sharpening;
3. "Coke bottle" handle with G10 grips, for a confortable and safe grip in all conditions;
4. large hollow pins (9 mm diameter) for an emergency spear (in the package there are two lenghts of paracord for this purpose); 
5. rear hole for paracord lanyard (provided with the knife); 
6. Kydex sheath with repositionable tek-lok belt clip for easy and safe port; 
7. firesteel integrated (for this purpose the edges of the spine blade are angled at 90°)

Specs of BlackFox VESUVIUS are as follows:

• blade lenght 105 mm
• blade thickness 5,0 mm
• blade treatment stonewashed
• inox steel 440C hardened 57-59HRC
• G10 handles
• Kydex sheath with tek-lok belt clip and integrated firesteel
• total lenght 220 mm
• weight 239 grams

Derivato dal progetto originale Vesuvius (Vesuvius by S. Mitchell), sono lieto di presentarvi il neonato BlackFox VESUVIUS BF-710

Ho progettato e disegnato BlackFox VESUVIUS specificamente per il bushcraft. 

Le sue caratteristiche principali sono:

1. struttura full-tang per la maggiore robustezza possibile; 
2. lama drop-point modificata da 4" pollici con bisellatura piana, ideale per versatilità d'uso e facilità di riaffilatura;
3. impugnatura "a bottiglia di Coca-Cola" con guancette in G10 per una presa comoda e sicura in ogni condizione;
4. grandi pins cavi (diametro 9 mm) per l'attacco ad un bastone come lancia di emergenza (nella confezione vi sono due tratti di paracord per questo scopo); 
5. foro posteriore per lacciolo in paracord (fornito con il coltello); 
6. fodero in materiale plastico con tek-lok riposizionabile per un porto sicuro ed agevole; 
7. acciarino integrato per l'accensione del fuoco (a tal fine i bordi del dorso lama sono angolati a 90°). 

Le specifiche di BlackFox VESUVIUS sono le seguenti:

• lunghezza lama 105 mm
• spessore lama 5,0 mm
• trattamento lama stonewashed
• acciaio inossidabile 440C temprato a 57-59HRC
• guancette in G10
• fodero in Kydex con tek-lok posteriore e acciarino integrato
• lunghezza totale 220 mm
• peso 239 grammi

Today I wanted to try VESUVIUS knife by Stuart Mitchell on batoning task, and check the edge after that


Started with a dry, old and super-hard wood: not any issue with the edge, but the striker broke out in three pieces so I had to stop

Then, I batoned a 2" branch of green wood: Vesuvius chopped it like butter

Here the video:

After that, a careful look at the edge show no damages at all, and Vesuvius still cut paper like a laser
